This is a letter that we received from
our daughter Chris Shackelford, who was able to wrangle some adult breeders from us. We
felt it was appropriate for these particular dogs to return to their homeland and continue
to share their genes under the care of our daughter. Chris lived in Wasilla, Alaska at the time
but has since moved to Alabama, on the Mississippi/Alabama state line. She has been associated
with the Alaskan Klee Kai since long before it was considered a breed. She is also the President of
the Alaskan Klee Kai Association of America, Inc. and I am sure that she would welcome e-mail
correspondence.
Dear Mom and Dad,
I wanted to write to you and thank you with all my heart for your love and kindness, but most especially for the beautiful AKK I got from you! I do not know how you could part with the breeding stock you did in order to help me get started in the breeding aspect of the AKK but I am so glad you did. Not just once but twice you allowed me to come to your home and practically steal precious breeding stock! I have purchased 5 adult, breeding qualified AKK from you, so far, and feel as if you allowed me to take some of the best from your kennels. With tears in your eyes you watched me pack up your babies and take them so far away from you. Rest assured, they are well loved and well cared for. You may also rest assured that I'll be back for more! I was lucky enough to be able to plan my trips so that I could be there for the annual AKK reunion and meetings that the two of you have hosted since 1991. What a lovely affair you put on for us. I don't know where you get all your energy. Your hard work and dedication are amazing. I am hoping that I can make it back this year for the reunion. I just love seeing all those beautiful AKK with their people. The only thing is there just doesn't seem to be enough time to visit with everyone. Well, I just wanted to thank you and say you are appreciated! Where would this breed be without you?
Chris
